Travel Clinic
We do not provide a Specialised Travel Clinic in the Practice.
We recommend that you plan ahead at least three months in advance of departure date and would emphasise that you should seek Specialist advice through a private travel clinic.
You can access travel advice from your local Pharmacy, https://www.ndprivatehealthcare.com/,(North down private health care), or MASTA Belfast Travel Clinic, based at Kerrsland Surgery, Upper Newtownards Road. Redwood Surgery in Bangor is also offering travel advice and travel vaccines.
You can check the Fit For Travel Website and select the region you are travelling to to find out what travel vaccinations you may require and the website also contains a wealth of other useful travel health advice.
The Specialist travel clinic will provide travel advice and any vaccines not covered on the NHS (eg Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis, Meningococcal, Rabies, Tick Borne Encephalitis or Yellow Fever) or Malaria prevention tablets.
Our GP Practice will be happy to provide you with a copy of your vaccination record if required.
If you require any vaccinations which are available on the NHS, the specialist travel clinic will advise you and you will be given the opportunity of having these free of charge at our surgery. In this instance you will be issued with a prescription for the vaccines and should make an appointment for the Practice Nurse to administer these.
The following travel vaccinations are available free on the NHS:
- Diptheria, Tetanus, Polio boosters (lasts at least 10 years)
- Typhoid (lasts 3 years)
- Hepatitis A (lasts 1 year unless repeated within a year in which case can confer immunity for 20 years)
- Cholera (only needed if in high risk area, doing high risk work)
